Ted Turner

Ted Turner has accumulated many accolades in his lifetime, and much of that began in 1970 when he bought a television news station in Atlanta.

We signed on on June 1, and barring satellite problems in the future, we won’t be signing off until the world end.

Turner later transformed the news station into the first national superstation to distribute programming through satellite to cable systems throughout the US.

He said he hoped that this national and international coverage would bring together in brotherhood and kindness and friendship and in peace the people of this nation and this world.

This achievement would later lead to the creation of CNN, Cartoon Network, and Turner Classic Movies.

My grandfather has taught me many lessons in life. Most of these lessons have been illustrated to me through his work.

He’s taught me how to persevere by pushing through life’s hardships and working hard enough to make your mark on the world.

Ted Turner to many is known to be charismatic, a visionary, larger than life, and outrageous.

I decided though what would be really exciting to do, donate a billion dollars to the U.N. causes myself and announce it tonight.

This led to the founding of the United Nations Foundation in 1998 with the focus in children’s health, women and girls, climate change, biodiversity, U.S.-U.N. relations and strengthening the U.N.

At the time this gift was made, it was the largest single donation ever made to anyone organization.

Above all, the Turner Foundation influenced the greatest bond between the people Ted Turner holds dear.

Grandpa had the foresight to set up the Turner Foundation in a way to keep our family together, to make us best friends and work together on what we share our common goals.

It’s amazing to see how his vision has evolved and how it’s ignited the common passions for so many of us inside and outside of this room.

To be stewards, to see and be part of thriving ecosystems, to think about not only the next generation, but future generations.

Grandpa always makes simple things a wild adventure.

Riding in the buggy and listening to him tell stories about bringing back the bison is one of my favorite things to do with him.

And I’m pretty sure not many families are as fortunate as to have such an experience and to create a lifetime bond as we have.

And this was Grandpa’s idea, and it was one of many of his excellent ideas.

Ted Turner’s life has not only made an impact on the environment and on the lives of millions of viewers, he has also created a legacy for others to follow.

The Turner legacy isn’t about resting on the laurels of the past.

Myself and my fellow cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren are committed to continue striving for a better future, working together across differences to save everything we love in common.

The values of my Grandpa Ted is championed are eternal.

They’re about love for the planet, care for its people and all life, and relentless pursuit of positive change.

I think it would be tragic to just be remembered for making a lot of money.
