DAVID WEEKLEY FAMILY FOUNDATION

Dear Friends,

Bonnie and I write this letter to formalize our past practice and future intent to give away more than 50% of our resources during our lifetime.

I have no illusions about the great privilege that I have benefitted from and now enjoy – of being born in the freest country in the world, to parents who loved us and taught us the tenets of our faith and the contours of a good life. Additionally, I have spent the vast majority of my life loving and being loved by my wife of 43 years, Bonnie, surrounded by a growing family and dear friends, and have relished the journey of building a company that enhances the lives of our team and our customers every day.

Most profoundly, I also have the privilege to focus on helping others, rather than having to worry about my own survival, as most people throughout the world must do each day.

When I originally committed to spend half my time and resources on philanthropy in 1994, I could not have imagined the deep joy and intellectual stimulation that would accompany this work. Many consider philanthropy “soft” or secondary, and yet the same qualities that have made our business such a source of personal fulfillment are found daily in our philanthropic pursuits as well – the ability to walk alongside incredibly high potential people as they strive to make a profound impact on our world.

We believe in giving urgently and without delay. The magnitude of global opportunity compels us to do more and go further. We are embarking on a new season of growth for our Foundation and have committed to double our international giving over the next three years. We believe in ‘giving while living,’ and intend to accelerate our pace now to match the challenges in front of us today.

In addition to our 50% personal commitment during our lifetime, we wanted to provide a means for longterm charitable funding and involvement. In hopes that our private business can continue its purpose of “Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives: Our Team, Our Customers, and Our Community” for generations into the future, we have established an ownership and distribution structure that includes 1/3 Employees, 1/3 Charity, and 1/3 Founding Families.

Bonnie and I are grateful to be called to this work and we feel incredibly fortunate – and responsible – each and every day to do the best we can with what we’ve been given. We will continue to labor tirelessly, seeking to embody our role as servants, joining God in His work of restoration for the world.

“To whom much is given, much is required.” (Luke 12:48)

Blessings,
